I looked through the web 2.0 things. I never really thought about it being different than what the internet was first designed for. I have gotten involved in some of the web 2.0 sites. For about the last year I have been using craiglist to try and get rid of some junk around the house that we no longer use. Here recently we are trying out Skype. My step-daughter is going to Spain for a year to school. We thought this would be a great and inexpensive way to keep in touch. Also, we purchased a web cam so that we can see here and she can see us. My 4 year old loves it!!! Right now she is in Michigan doing a math REU, so we are testing it out now while she is there. It was very easy to set up and use.
I also listened to the digital citizenship pod cast. It got me to thinking that we should be teaching students how to appropriately use the internet instead of just blocking sites that they cannot go to. At home, most parents do not take the time or don't know how to go about blocking sites, so they have access to them there anyway. If we show them and take the time to teach them appropriately they will have the tools to be safe on the internet.
